General Visitor Policies

To protect the integrity and safety of museum visitors, staff, and volunteers, as well as the artworks, Mia asks all museum visitors to follow the following policies.

No weapons, firearms, or hazardous materials are allowed in the museum, including pepper spray, mace, flammable liquids, adhesives, aerosols, fuels, fireworks, toxic chemicals, and explosives.

No bags, backpacks (including backpack baby carriers), camera bags, shopping bags, and purses larger than 15×15 inches are allowed in the museum.

  • To protect the integrity and safety of the artworks, we do not permit large backpacks or backpacks on the back inside the museum. Small bags may be carried into the museum. However, bags and backpacks must be carried on the front or side of your body to protect the artwork. Visitors can store coats or large bags and backpacks (more than 15 x 15 inches) in lockers, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. All bags may be subject to security inspection.
  • We also understand visitors may require larger bags to carry essential items such as medical equipment or personal belongings. If you need an exemption for your backpack for accessibility reasons, we welcome you to do so. We kindly request that you ensure your backpack does not obstruct pathways or pose a risk to the artworks. Please be mindful and considerate while navigating through the museum.

No art materials other than pencils and sketchbooks are allowed in the museum. Specifically, graphite and colored pencils are permitted, but other types (such as charcoal) are not allowed.

No bicycles; e-bike batteries; sports equipment; recreational equipment such as scooters, skateboards, or shoes with wheels; and roller blades are allowed in the museum.

No large objects (such as flags, banners, signs, frames, and artwork) are allowed in the museum.

No tripods, flash attachments, and selfie sticks are allowed in the museum.

No flowers, plants, balloons, toys, and wrapped packages are allowed in the museum.

Umbrellas that are too large to be stowed in bags should be left in the coat check room.

No pets or other animals (except service animals, which must be leashed and attached at all times) are allowed in the museum.

Shirts and shoes are required for entry.

No soliciting is allowed unless authorized by Mia.

Sleeping or lying down in public areas of the museum is prohibited.

Disruptive or disorderly behavior, including running, yelling, threatening others, or fighting, is prohibited.

Visitors are not permitted to wear ski masks, facial barrier coverings, masks, hoods, face paint, or devices that hide or cover any portion of the face to conceal the identity of the individual, with the exception of medical masks and religious garments.

Verbally abusive, harassing, discriminatory, or threatening statements or behavior toward Mia staff or other visitors is prohibited. Mia reserves the right to ask any group or individual whose behavior is disruptive or violates museum policy to leave the museum immediately.

Displaying physical impairment from alcohol or drug use, or the possession, sale, or use of illegal drugs on museum property is prohibited.
