The Art of Snow Sculpting: In Conversation with the World Snow Celebration

Join master snow sculptors from Teams Denmark, Mexico, and Turkey for a fascinating conversation where they share what it takes to create their massive artworks for the annual World Snow Sculpting Championship, part of the World Snow Celebration in Stillwater, Minnesota.

This panel brings together some of the world’s most talented sculptors to discuss the artistry, teamwork, and innovation that transform their artistic visions into breathtaking masterpieces. Hear firsthand stories from the artists who shape blocks of snow into ephemeral art forms that capture the spirit of their homelands.

This event is held in conjunction with Mia’s own Institute of Ice, our annual celebration of art in ice.

Team Eastwood

Team Eastwood hails from Denmark and has shown artwork at international snow sculpting festivals around the world. Led by Steffie Pedersen, the team is known for transforming monumental blocks of snow into abstract works that transport viewers into a fantasy world of symbolism and striking forms. Their creations consistently draw crowds, proving that snow can indeed be high art.

Team Colima

Born in heat, but working in the cold, Mexico’s Team Colima is dedicated to creating snow masterpieces one carving at a time. Led by Carlos Miguel Ramirez Pereyra, the team loves the monumental challenge of the art form. They see it as a true test of endurance, pushing themselves to withstand the cold while creating unique and inspiring art.

Team Türkiye

The team came together in 2016 to compete in international snow sculpture events. They have produced works in many countries, including the United States, China, Canada, Japan, and various European countries. The team is led by Ceyhun Konak, a Turkish sculptor and professor. Their awards include the World Snow Sculpting Championships (USA, 2023–2024) and Valloire Snow Sculpture Competition (France, 2025).
