Join us for our free monthly event for families, kids, and the young at heart. On the second Sunday of every month, the museum is filled with hands-on art activities, storytelling, artist demonstrations, gallery hunts, self-guided tours, and more—all inspired by Mia’s incredible collection.

September 13 | Sounds of Summer

Say “see ya!” to summer with fun performances and art making. Create instruments in the studios with Laura Wennstrom and enjoy performances outside in Target Park.

Feel the beat and rock out with performances by TaikoArts Midwest, Train House Friends, and Basic and Boring as you enjoy this music line up that is fun for the whole family!

October 11 | Spooky Couture

Join us for a spooky good time this Family Day. In honor of Mia’s newest special exhibition, “Paris Couture,” enjoy a fashion show for kids with Lovely’s Sewing Collective. Visit the studios to make miniature Day of the Dead altars with artist Daniela Jimenez, and enjoy short films from MSP Film’s Hola Cine. Grab some grub at the Pizza Karma food truck. Mia Members receive free entry to “Paris Couture” this Member Day. Become a free member or join on site.

November 8 | Inside Out

This month, Family Day is a bone rattling occasion! Check out “Bare Bones: Skeletons in Japanese Art” and have fun celebrating yourself and your loved ones from the inside out! Enjoy skeleton puppet crafts, performances, dancing, food, and more.

Craft skeleton puppets with Akiko Ostlund, 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Listen to story time from the Children’s Theatre Company, 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m.

December 13 | Self-Portrait

Have you ever made a self-portrait? Explore all the different ways we can reflect on ourselves and make self-portraits. Make some art using both fabric and clay, and participate in a fun movement activity. Don’t forget to check out “Maria Berrio: Songlines” with the whole family while you’re here!

January 10 | Dress It Up!

Join us as we send off “Paris Couture” in true Family Day style! Play dress up, have fun with collage, and get grooving with a unique movement activity. Don’t forget to get a last look at the exhibition before it’s gone!
