Join us for our free monthly event for families, kids, and the young at heart. On the second Sunday of every month, the museum is filled with hands-on art activities, storytelling, artist demonstrations, gallery hunts, self-guided tours, and more—all inspired by Mia’s incredible collection.

May 10 | May the Force Be with You
This May bring your mom, dress as your favorite Star Wars character, and head to Mia for some Star Wars–themed fun! Discover how this fun film saga relates to our collection and the arts. There’ll be a costume contest*, Star Wars crafts, and maybe a few familiar characters roaming around the museum. Don’t miss this awesome chance to experience the Force this spring!
Create fun Star Wars themed crafts
Dress to impress as your favorite Star Wars character and participate in a kid’s costume contest*, facilitated by the Minnesota Wolfpack Garrison, 11 a.m.–noon
Join Star Wars–themed trivia with Trivia Mafia in the Wells Fargo Community Room, 10:30, 11:30, 1:30, and 2:30 p.m.
Listen to your favorite K-pop and Star Wars songs, performed by local cellist Mimi Yang, 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.
Watch A New Hope in Ojibwe and discover the connection between indigenous heritage and the Star Wars franchise, Pillsbury Auditorium, 2 p.m.
Learn how the Force continues to inspire artists in our community
*Costume Contest Rules: The museum does not allow light saber replicas, blasters replicas, weapon replicas, face paint, tails, wings, masks, or any face coverings of any kind. Plan for your face to show while in costume. All characters wearing masks during the event are professional participants who’ve been preapproved by Mia’s security team.
June 14 | Rock the Cradle
Rock the Cradle returns to Mia! Kick off the summer with performances all day long. Family Day art activities take place in the studios, where you can add to a patchwork wall of color alongside Now.Make.Art. Come back soon for the full Rock the Cradle lineup.
July 12 | Elements of Art
Check out all the ways you can make art! Explore the seven elements of art in our studios: line, shape, color, form, value, space, and texture. Enjoy a STEAM activity outside and In-Gallery Conversations featuring pottery, paintings, photos, and more.
August 9 | Express Yourself
Beat the heat and stop by Mia to get inspired. Make unique accessories in our studios with teaching artist Maya O’Reilly. Akiko Ostlund leads a puppet show, then helps you create your own puppet. Participate in a movement activity and enjoy story time with The Children’s Theatre Company.
September 13 | Sounds of Summer
Say “see ya!” to summer with fun performances and art making. Create instruments in the studios with Laura Wennstrom and enjoy performances outside in Target Park. Food truck information coming soon.
