Virtual Art in Bloom 2021

April 28 – May 2

Online

Mia’s annual floral celebration of creativity and philanthropy is here! For the safety of our visitors, staff, and volunteers, Art in Bloom will be digital this year. Expect exciting virtual events, floral interpretations of artworks from home, and unique opportunities to give back to the institution and community you love. Art in Bloom helps the Friends of the Institute support, enhance, and sustain the museum. Your gift will help expand Mia’s outreach to the community and keep the galleries safe and accessible to all.

Virtual Floral Interpretations

Virtual Floral Interpretations

The Pedestal Floral Artists who create the beautiful, imaginative arrangements inspired by the art remain at the heart of Art in Bloom. Even though their creations cannot be displayed in person at Mia this year, you will still be able to enjoy nearly 100 of them online, alongside the art that inspired them.

Signature Cocktail Recipe

NORSEMAN LADY SIPPER

The mixologists at Norseman Distillery have created a special cocktail/mocktail for Art in Bloom that’s easy to make at home. Make a pitcher ahead of time and serve it ice cold, in a coupe or collins glass, with an ice cube and dried lavender garnish.

Enjoy it during one of the online lectures or tours, or while browsing the floral arrangements.

About this year’s signature artwork:

This year’s signature piece, Floral Legacy, is a recent Mia acquisition by Dakota artist Holly Young. This dazzling work is a beautiful example of Young’s commitment to preserving traditional Native art, as she incorporates Dakota floral designs using bead and quillwork. To learn more, reserve your ticket for a group talk featuring Young, Graci Horne, and Jill Ahlberg Yohe, Mia’s associate curator of Native American art: “The Art of Turtle Island: Dakota Floral Legacy” on April 29, here.

Holly Young’s Floral Legacy will be on view in Mia’s General Mills Lobby from April 19 to May 30, 2021. Diane Enge and Mayumi Redin of Bachman’s Lyndale will be creating a floral arrangement inspired by this piece at their Lyndale location.
