A Guide to the Institute of Hearts, the Perfect Plan for Your Next Date Night
January 22, 2026—For more than a decade, Mia has celebrated love by transforming into the Minneapolis Institute of Hearts around Valentine’s Day. Every year, thousands of guests join us to show their appreciation for the works of art that move, inspire, and intrigue them. We’ve compiled this guide for those new to the experience.
What Is the Institute of Hearts?
This free event is held around Valentine’s Day and invites museum guests to respond to works of art. Some even write poems and create illustrations dedicated to their favorite pieces! Love is truly in the air as hearts scatter the gallery floors.
How Does It Work?
From February 10 to 15, 2026, stop by Mia’s visitor experience desk in the lobby. A representative will provide you with a paper heart. Then explore the galleries and leave your heart on the floor with the artwork that captures it.
Who Gets the Most Love?
Some of the most beloved objects include the Tatra, Jade Mountain, the Veiled Lady, and the Yamantaka Mandala. Join us this year to ensure your favorite gets the love it deserves.

Do I Need Tickets to Attend?
Nope. Admission is free, and everyone is always welcome. No tickets are required. Come feel the love at the Institute of Hearts.
