Community Care
Mia’s mission is to enrich the community by collecting, preserving, and making accessible outstanding works of art from the world’s diverse cultures. We do this through our exhibitions, programming, and partnerships with community organizations. Mia is dedicated to playing a reciprocal role, showing care for our community, just as our community shows care for us. Here are some ways you can be involved in this work.
Community Aid Network
Mia and Children’s Theatre Company are honored to host Community Aid Network of Minnesota (CANMN) as a site for distribution of essential supplies to community members in need. CANMN is a mutual aid coalition of volunteers from The People’s Library Mutual Aid, Pimento Relief Service and Provision Community Kitchen.
Community members can receive supplies Mondays and Wednesdays from 12 – 4pm via curbside pick-up at Mia’s 3rd Ave entrance. Donations are also welcome on Mondays and Wednesdays 12 – 4PM. The most needed items at the moment include: diapers of all sizes, wipes, laundry detergent, over-the-counter pain relief, first aid kits, cold and flu medicines, Kleenex, bleach spray, and bleach.
For more information, visit the CAN MN Facebook page or email communityaidnetworkmn@gmail.com.
Pay-it-Forward Kits
Since March of 2020, Mia has distributed over 3,000 art-making kits throughout the Twin Cities. For $25, you can “pay it forward” and purchase a kit of art-making materials for a child attending one of our studio classes on scholarship, a school classroom, or a family in the community. Thank you for your generosity!
