Welcome back to Mia, whenever you’re comfortable visiting us. Our galleries are open, with all the recommended precautions—plus a few others—in place. Remember our “No touching the art” signs? And our friendly security guards? They’re still here, along with firm new protocols to keep visitors, staff, and the collection safe. Being open at this time means adhering to guidelines endorsed by the CDC, Department of Agriculture, and American Alliance of Museums.
The specific actions we’re taking to protect museum visitors and staff are outlined below. We look forward to seeing you, safely, in the galleries. We will carefully and continually monitor the efficacy of these guidelines in real-time and make further adjustments as needed. We offer visitor information in Spanish, Somali and Hmong.

Visitor Safety
Masks
Mia requires face masks for visitors and staff. Per Emergency Regulation, The City of Minneapolis currently requires anyone over the age of 2 to wear a mask in public spaces.
Social Distancing
Social distancing required. Please stay at least 6 feet away from other visitors at all times. We will monitor all public spaces to facilitate social distancing; and have installed signage throughout the facility to encourage and remind visitors to practice social distancing.
To allow for proper social distancing, we will be operating at 50% capacity or less, and staff will be monitoring the number of visitors in and out of our smaller galleries and other public spaces. Please take turns in small galleries and allow space for other visitors.
Some areas of Mia will be restricted to one-way flow. Please observe and follow the directions of all signage and floor graphics. Stairways and elevators may be restricted to up-only or down-only movement as well. Elevator use is restricted to one group at a time.
Health Etiquette
Please wash and/or sanitize your hands before touching merchandise in The Store. Sanitizer is available throughout the building.
Tours and Groups
The Purcell-Cutts house will remain closed to the public until further notice. Group tours will be discontinued until further notice. Group gatherings are limited to less than 10 people until further notice.
Increased Cleanliness
Implementation of cleaning risk mitigation strategies and disinfection of public spaces and frequently touched surfaces such as door handles, elevator buttons, vending machines, push plates, stair rails, restroom fixtures, countertops, faucet handles, and water fountains will remain an elevated priority. Designated custodial staff will focus on frequently touched surfaces utilizing EPA registered disinfectants, based on OSHA standards, CDC directives, and MDH recommendations.
In addition to custodial best practices, engineering controls will be implemented for exposure reduction solutions, such as increasing HVAC ventilation and enhanced air filter supply exchange circulation.
