An Indigenous Art: Huipiles from Mia’s Collection
The term huipil defines a traditional blouse worn by women throughout Mesoamerica, particularly among the Maya since pre-Hispanic times. The custom remains prevalent in Guatemala Highlands, where most Maya descendants reside today. The decoration is unique to each village and identifies the wearer’s origins.
