General admission is free; no tickets needed.
Tickets may be required for special events and exhibitions. Reserve online or by phone: 612.870.3000.
Mia provides free special exhibition tickets for active military/veterans and their families. Free special exhibition tickets are also available upon request for individuals needing financial assistance. To receive free special exhibition tickets, please email us, call us at 612.870.3000, or speak to a staff member at the visitor services lobby desk.

Entrance, Directions, and Parking
Please enter and exit Mia at the Third Avenue entrance. Mia’s other entrances will remain closed until further notice.
Find the best way to get to Mia as well as parking info. The Third Avenue ramp uses credit cards for entrance and exit; no ticket or receipts given.

Questions About My Visit
Do I need a ticket?
Advanced general admission tickets are not required. Tickets are required for special events and exhibitions.
Are income based tickets available?
General admission to Mia is always free and does not require a ticket. Free special exhibition tickets are available for individuals needing financial assistance. To receive free special exhibition tickets, please email us at visit@artsmia.org, call us at 612.870.3000, or speak to a staff member at the visitor services lobby desk.
Is social distancing being enforced?
While social distancing is no longer required, there’s still plenty of space—over 545,000 square feet—for you to spread out in the museum.
Are group visits possible?
Yes! If you’re planning a visit with more than 10 people, please fill out our Self-Guided Group Registration Form or call ahead: 612.870.3000.
Can I check my coat and bag?
Yes! A self-serve coat check is available. Please be aware that Mia is not responsible for articles checked, their contents, or for any items left overnight. Any bags larger than 15 in. x 15 in. will not be allowed in the museum and must be checked. For security reasons, we reserve the right to inspect all items carried into or out of the museum.
Are audio guides still available?
Mia doesn’t rent out devices on site. You can use your personal device to access Audio Stops, ArtStories, and additional content to explore Mia’s collection. You can see if an object has an audio guide by typing in the accession number or title into the search box. You can also look for a colored sticker on labels. Type the number into the search box to find the audio.

Are the Store at Mia and Agra Cafe Open?
Yes! The Store at Mia and Agra Culture Cafe are open during museum hours.
What are your visitor policies?
The Minneapolis Institute of Art is committed to creating a safe, accessible, and inclusive space for all of its visitors, staff, and volunteers. To maintain this safe space and promote respect for everyone at Mia, we insist that all visitors to the museum refrain from the following:
- • Verbal or physical abuse or harassment of museum visitors, staff, or volunteers
- • Covert and overt hate speech or promotion of current and historical hate groups
- • Disrespect of a visitor, staff member, or volunteer’s identity.
- • Repeated disruption or intimidation of museum visitors, staff, or volunteers
- • Attempted vandalism or theft
- • The intentional obstruction of public accessways or prevention of museum staff duties
- • Refusal to follow visitor policies or directions of museum staff
If this behavior is observed by, or reported to, Mia staff, the visitor will be subject to direction including but not limited to being asked to leave or trespassed from the property. Final decision of discipline is at the discretion of Mia Security staff.
